Contemporary Heritage Fusion
2022 KBDi Winner Kitchens Plus NSW
This 1920’s Californian Bungalow in Sydney’s leafy North Shore was rich with character, featuring original detailing and high ceilings, but the interiors had become tired and dated. The owners wanted a home that honoured its heritage while offering contemporary comfort and practicality for a busy family of four.
Our design approach transformed the kitchen, butler’s pantry, laundry, and adjoining living spaces into a cohesive, elegant interior that blends timeless style with relaxed family living.
Contemporary Kitchen
The heart of the home, the new kitchen was designed as both a functional workspace and a welcoming hub for the family. Super White Dolomite stone, black and white cabinetry, and brass accents create a timeless palette, while subtle curves soften the space.
Key features:
- Reoriented island bench to improve the outlook toward the outdoor deck
- Curved island design, echoed in the fireplace area for visual connection
- Hidden butler’s pantry accessed via a concealed door in the cabinetry, with Carrara marble hexagon splashback
- Brass details throughout: Armac Martin handles, Brodware tapware, and mesh inserts
- Dulux Vivid White & Domino finishes with slimline shaker cabinetry and timber veneer accents
- Escea freestanding gas fireplace with Dulux Domino VJ panelling to add warmth and disguise the TV
European Style Laundry
Flowing on from the kitchen, the new hidden European style laundry was designed to maximise efficiency without compromising on aesthetics. Concealed behind slimline shaker bi-fold doors, it reflects the kitchen palette while incorporating clever storage and practical detailing.
Key features:
- Elevated appliances with pull-out shelf and space for baskets below
- Dedicated storage for ironing board, steam iron, and essentials
- Dulux Vivid White polyurethane cabinetry to match the kitchen design
- Madison Tiles splashback and floor tiles for a seamless transition
- LED strip lighting activated on door opening for task lighting
- Plantation Ash Woodmatt shelving to echo the butler’s pantry
Heritage Meets Modern Living
Together, the kitchen and laundry deliver a seamless blend of heritage character and modern comfort. Consistent cabinetry, finishes, and detailing connect the spaces, while thoughtful planning ensures both functionality and elegance. The result is a home that feels timeless, practical, and perfectly suited to family life.
