Narrabeen Interior Design Project
Coastal Contemporary Transformation
This Narrabeen beach house was ready for a fresh start. The existing kitchen and bathroom were cramped and cluttered, and the laundry was tucked awkwardly under the stairs. The owners wanted a renovation that embraced their relaxed, indoor–outdoor lifestyle while creating light-filled, functional spaces for family living and entertaining.
Our design approach delivered a contemporary kitchen, compact bathroom, concealed laundry, and new alfresco area – each space connected by a coastal-inspired palette of crisp whites, warm timbers, and subtle sea greens.
Contemporary Kitchen
The kitchen was transformed from a dark, enclosed corner into an open-plan space that flows directly onto the rear alfresco deck, the perfect setting for family meals and entertaining. Designed with both form and function in mind, the layout combines practical cooking features with generous storage solutions, all framed within a calming coastal palette.
Key features:
Dual wall ovens for a functional cook’s kitchen
Le-Mans corner unit, pull-out pantry & bi-fold frosted glass lift-up cupboards
Clear glass window splashback to maximise natural light
Coastal palette of warm timber veneers, frosted glass, crisp whites & sea greens
Open-plan design connecting seamlessly with alfresco living
Alfresco Area, Indoor-Outdoor Living
Extending directly from the new kitchen, the alfresco deck is designed as a natural extension of the home’s living space. Large bi-fold doors open wide to create a seamless connection between indoors and outdoors, perfect for entertaining or relaxed family living.
A warm timber deck sets the foundation, complemented by a stacked stone feature wall with a sleek built-in fireplace for year-round comfort. Adjustable louvres provide flexibility, open them to capture breezes and garden views, or close them for privacy and shelter. Furnished with contemporary wicker seating, the space feels inviting yet practical, embodying the coastal lifestyle of Narrabeen.
Key features:
Seamless flow between kitchen, dining, and outdoor living areas
Warm timber decking with natural stone feature wall and built-in fireplace
Bi-fold doors for an open, flexible connection indoors and out
Adjustable louvre shutters to control light, airflow, and privacy
Contemporary outdoor furnishings to complete the relaxed, coastal feel
Compact Bathroom
Tasked with fitting a full bathroom into a compact footprint, the design incorporates all essentials, full-length bath, separate shower, vanity, and toilet without compromising comfort or style. The result is a light, contemporary bathroom that complements the kitchen and laundry through consistent use of palette and finishes.
Key features:
Full-length bath, separate shower, vanity & toilet
Feature wall of glass vanilla mosaic tiles
Coastal modern palette with crisp white cabinetry & timber detailing
Skylight to enhance natural light
Mirror shelf for convenient storage
Concealed Laundry
Maximising space under the stairs, the laundry was designed to be completely hidden when not in use, yet highly functional behind closed doors. The design echoes materials and tones from the kitchen and bathroom, ensuring a cohesive look throughout the home.
Key features:
Fully concealed cabinetry under the stairs
Compact washing machine integration
Open shelving for extra storage
Cabinetry designed to store an ironing board
Simple tiled splashback & floor to match existing décor
Coastal Living Connected
Together, the kitchen, bathroom, laundry, and alfresco area create a cohesive, contemporary home that reflects the family’s coastal lifestyle. Consistent finishes and detailing connect each space, while the open-plan kitchen and alfresco link indoors with outdoors. The result is a bright, functional, and inviting home designed for modern family living by the beach.

Helen added a new level of design & professionalism to our renovation project. Helen took our initial design for remodelling the rear of our house & significantly improved on it. The design incorporated removing internal walls to enlarge the kitchen & family areas, a new laundry, main bathroom & toilet as well as a redesigned deck. The deck is accessed through bi-folds from the new family area & features a gas fireplace & shutters for screening. A true inside/outside design. Mark, Narrabeen.
