Recognised as a finalist in the 2026 KBDi Design Awards, this exceptional dual occupancy interior design project in Sydney received nominations in the KBDi Kitchens Plus NSW and KBDi Design Spaces – Residential (NSW) categories.
Comprising two residences, each with basement, ground and first-floor levels, the project gave Helen the opportunity to be involved from the ground up. The comprehensive interior design scheme was carefully developed to complement the architectural vision while ensuring functionality, elegance and seamless flow throughout both homes.
Working in close collaboration with the architect and builder, Helen played a pivotal role in developing the overall interior design direction and helped bring together a talented creative team of professionals to deliver an outstanding result.
Project Scope & Stages
Initial Concept & Design Development
- Design meetings with the architect, builder and client
- Presenting mood boards and material samples to establish overall style and design direction
- Interior design documentation showing initial interior planning of spaces
Detailed Design Phase
- Kitchens, bathrooms, laundries, fireplaces, wardrobes, wine cellar, basement layouts, and lift specifications
- Exterior selections: bricks, roof tiles, windows and doors, balustrading, exterior paint palette, pool tiles etc
- Tile and grout markups, flooring material layouts and door hardware specified
Team Management & Coordination
- Led collaboration across the project team
- Scheduled and chaired client design team meetings, providing agendas and minutes throughout the pre-production phase
- Oversaw administration, scheduling, and coordination to ensure smooth communication
Cabinetry & Detailing
- Reviewed and approved all cabinet maker shop drawings
- Specified all cabinetry, handles and door hardware
- Attended regular site visits with the builder and clients to check all design specifications
- Double checked all specification lists and orders with the builder, clients and suppliers for kitchens and bathroom appliances, fittings and fixtures, ensuring every specific product arrived on site
Sourcing & Specifications
- Sourced and specified exterior design elements – Front doors and hardware, garage doors, letterbox design
- Worked alongside the lighting designer to incorporate all lighting specifics into cabinetry
- Collaborated with the creative team to refine material selections to be cohesive and flow
Kitchen & Living Design
At the heart of the home is a bespoke contemporary kitchen designed as a welcoming gathering place for the family and their extended family.
The original architectural layout was reworked to create a more open and connected relationship between the kitchen, dining and living areas. Relocating the laundry allowed the butler’s pantry to be enlarged, providing additional storage and functionality while keeping everyday kitchen preparation out of sight.
Curved forms became a defining feature of the design, flowing through the island bench, textured feature wall and rangehood. A warm, layered palette of natural materials and finishes includes Taj Mahal natural stone, aged iron tapware and hardware, and an aged brass linear pendant. The striking curved brass rangehood creates a focal point while integrated appliances maintain the kitchen’s clean, sophisticated lines.
The result is an elegant yet relaxed kitchen that delivers the functionality needed for everyday family life while creating an impressive space for entertaining and large multigenerational gatherings.
The Conservatory
The design continues into the conservatory, created as a relaxed living space for both quiet moments and large family gatherings throughout the year.
A large corner fireplace with vertically stacked tiles draws the eye towards the high ceiling, while deep coffered ceilings, automated window treatments and carefully considered lighting create warmth and atmosphere. Large sliding and fixed glass doors maximise natural light and strengthen the connection between the interior and outdoor living areas.
Materials were selected to complement the kitchen and create a cohesive flow between the spaces. A French wash wall finish, Taj Mahal natural stone and warm clay floor tiles introduce layers of texture and an organic, timeless character.
Wide stairs with a curved end connect the conservatory to the kitchen, reinforcing the curves used throughout the interior and creating a seamless transition between the family’s main living spaces.
A Collaborative Design Journey
Completed in March 2026, this dual occupancy new build represents one of the most comprehensive projects in Helen’s portfolio. From the initial interior planning and material selections through to detailed cabinetry, lighting, finishes and final specifications, Helen’s involvement helped create a cohesive design language that flows throughout the homes.
The completed interiors balance functionality with warmth and elegance, creating spaces designed not only to look beautiful, but to support the way the families live, entertain and come together.
The project has since been recognised as a 2026 KBDi Design Awards finalist in both KBDi Kitchens Plus NSW and KBDi Design Spaces – Residential (NSW) – a wonderful recognition of the design and collaborative effort behind the finished homes.
