Contemporary Kitchen & Laundry
2019 KBDi Designer Awards Finalist
Located in the heart of Sydney’s inner west, this Victorian terrace was transformed into a light-filled, contemporary home designed for both everyday living and family gatherings. The owners, a professional couple, wanted to bring new life to their dark, enclosed spaces creating an open-plan kitchen, living area, and laundry that felt calm, timeless, and connected.
The design process began with a hand-drawn “mud map” outlining how the spaces should flow together. The kitchen was developed first, establishing a clean visual language that continued throughout the adjoining living area, butler’s pantry, and laundry.
Contemporary Kitchen
This contemporary kitchen renovation was a 2019 KBDi Designer Awards Finalist in the Large NSW Kitchen Design category. The space captures a subtle nod to the home’s Victorian heritage while embracing a relaxed, modern style.
Key features:
- V-groove detailing, glass wall cabinets, bevelled shaker doors, and a freestanding cooker link the design to the home’s heritage
- Long kitchen island bench providing a casual family dining area
- Symmetrical cabinetry for balance and visual calm
- Modern kitchen dresser for additional display and storage
- Large glass doors opening to the garden and garage, enhancing natural light and indoor-outdoor flow
- Calming, timeless palette of whites, soft cool greys, and warm timber flooring
- Open plan layout connecting the kitchen, living, and play areas for multi-generational family use
The result is a beautiful, light-filled kitchen and living space that feels both sophisticated and welcoming, the perfect environment for the owners and their extended family to enjoy together.
Contemporary Laundry
Reflecting the same relaxed, timeless palette as the kitchen, the laundry was designed to be highly functional while maintaining visual harmony with the rest of the home.

- Tall storage cabinet for practicality and organisation
- Bench space maximised with under-bench washing machine and condenser dryer

- Generous sink and functional layout to optimise workflow
